Albuquerque tutoring program seeks volunteers

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A tutoring program that helps elementary school kids learn to read is asking for the public’s help.

ABQ Reads helps kindergarten students at Atrisco, Bel Air and Wherry elementary schools learn to read, write and develop skills.

Right now ABQ Reads has 350 volunteers. However, they need 120 more.

“A lot of these kids come to us and they don’t know their letters or any of the other basics some kids learn at an early age, so we’re able to help the teachers teach them how to read so they are really ready for the first grade,” said Patrick Dee of ABQ Reads.

Tutoring will begin at the end of September and volunteers will undergo training.
