Seniors asking taxpayers to weigh in on Spaceport center

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A big fight is brewing between seniors and the county over the Spaceport. When the Spaceport visitor’s center was opened last month, the senior citizens who used the recreation center inside were relocated and they are not happy.

They got enough signatures to force a special election, asking taxpayers and voters to help force their move back. Seniors say, taxpayers are funding the Spaceport and getting little out of it. But county officials stand by the decision saying the visitors’ center will help boost economic development.

Absentee voting for the special election starts Tuesday, the actual election is September 22nd.
