Pedestrian in critical condition after crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One person is in critical condition and another injured after they were hit by a car in the Northeast Heights. Police say they were crossing the street Sunday night near Montgomery and Louisiana when they were struck. The driver stopped; there’s no word on whether the driver will face charges.

Evening showers help firefighters douse flames

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County firefighters say evening showers helped them put out a difficult fire on the Sandia Crest. The small fire was spotted Sunday morning just north of I-40 near Tijeras. It took fire fighters three hours to hike to the blaze. Crews say lightning may have sparked it.

County proposes building memorials dedicated to fallen officers

ALBUQERQUE (KRQE) – Bernalillo County wants to build two memorials that would honor officers killed in the line of duty. One at Arroyo del Oso in northeast Albuquerque and one in the East Mountains in Tijeras. According to the journal county staffers say the design and construction of just one memorial would cost $400,000. There’s about $50,000 in public art money available for the East Mountain site.

Carlsbad police seek Allsup’s robbery suspect

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Carlsbad police are asking for your help finding a robber. He struck an Allsup’s on east Church Street Sunday. Employees say he entered the store with a gun, demanded money, ordered the employees to stay where they were, then fled.

Durango Aerospace Design team brings home big honor

DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – Some kids in Durango received a big honor. The Aerospace Design Team won second place in an International Space Design Competition at the Kennedy Space Education Center. The team is made up of 13 students from Durango High School. Their assignment was to design a self-sustaining Martian settlement and they had just three days to do it. The team also received another honor, sophomore, Abby Scott won best overall female presenter.
