Man convicted, sentenced in UNM student’s death

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One of the men involved in killing a University of New Mexio student then dumping his body in a cave near Grants has been convicted. In 2012, 25-year-old Bryce Franklin and Clifford Bearden shot and killed 23-year-old Fernando Enriquez, an architecture student at UNM.

Enriquez’s body was found in a cave known as the double sinks in El Malpais National Monument. The motive for the murder appeared to be money that Enrique had owed Franklin and Bearden.

Franklin was found guilty last week of first degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison plus more time for being a habitual offender.

Bearden’s case is still moving through the legal system. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
