ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police are looking for a ‘bedding bandit’ who was caught on surveillance video ripping off a Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Video from the store on San Mateo near I-40 shows a man, believed to be between 55 to 65 years of age, walk in with a shopping cart Saturday morning.
Less than 10 minutes later, another camera shows him making a beeline for the door with a pair of comforter sets in his cart. The man walks right past cash registers.
The two comforter sets were priced at $300 and $350, which makes the crime a fourth degree felony.
According to police, store employees went after the man into the parking lot. There they saw him get into a silver sedan getaway car before fleeing.
The car could be a silver Chevy Cavalier, according to a police report. The license plate was covered with paper at the time, but is believed to be a turquoise New Mexico plate.
“I don’t think this guy stole these to give them to his grandmother, I highly doubt that,” APD’s Simon Drobik said. “He’s selling these to sell them on the street for cash.”
The man is described as white, 6 foot tall and weighing about 250 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Albuquerque Police Department’s tip line at 242-COPS.
