CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Waste Isolation Pilot Plant officials are expected to speak to the public on their clean-up progress on Thursday.
This comes after a false alarm indicating high radiation levels shut the facility down. It happened Tuesday night when a portable machine sounded the alarm. Technicians did not find any evidence of an actual radiation leak.
The repository has been working to reopen for more than a year. It just recently moved the target date past 2016.
The facility will be holding a town hall meeting in Carlsbad Thursday night at 5:30.
