SANTA FE (KRQE) – A new reality show will give America a look at one of the most dangerous jobs in New Mexico.
It will debut Thursday night on A&E.
New Mexico State Penitentiary Officer, Carlos Rivera, spoke about his job.
“I have 48 inmates in each dorm so roughly around 150 inmates and there’s one officer, which is myself, watches them for 12 hours a day. Just me. That’s no one else,” said Rivera.
In 1980, the state pen was home to one of the most violent prison riots in US History. 22 inmates were killed, more than 200 injuries reported and 14 officers were held hostage.
