Local health official offers tips for back to school

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – While going back to school, there are a few things that can be done for student’s health before school even starts.

Andrea Boyer, a physician’s assistant with the Minute Clinic in Rio Rancho, points to three things to do before school starts to relieve stress later.

  1. Remember to schedule a sports physical: Boyer says students may need these to participate later in the year.
  2. Make sure to talk with your school about how to manage your child’s prescriptions and over the counter medication
  3. Don’t forget to be up to date on vaccinations

Boyer also says it’s good to send kids to school with sunscreen and remind them to practice good hygiene, like proper hand washing, to help prevent illness.
