The heat is on across New Mexico! After another day of triple digit heat in the southeast and temps well into the 90s across central sections of the state, there looks to be very little relief through the rest of the workweek. In fact, temps will warm just a bit more Thursday before the edge comes off the heat for the weekend.
An area of high pressure sitting over the state is responsible for the heat we’ve seen this week. As the weekend approaches, a storm system will push onto the west coast, nudging the high back east. This will allow the moisture door to slowly open back up across the west. Shower chances will improve across the west and eventually the north through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. As the moisture moves in, temperatures will come down.
Since the southeast will remain closer to the high, this part of the state will hold onto the heat into at least early next week.
