Border Patrol seizes nearly $330,000 in marijuana

LORDSBURG, N.M. (KRQE) – Border Patrol Agents foiled two drug smuggling efforts south of Lordsburgh Tuesday night.

Agents spotted the first group of people walking in the desert with large backpacks. Two of the six people in the group were apprehended and their backpacks were obtained by agents.

The four others left their backpacks and returned back to Mexico. 259.45 pounds of marijuana with a value of over $207,000 was found in the backpacks.

The Drug Enforcement Administration will take custody of the two people and the marijuana.

Two hours later, three other people were seen walking through the desert with large backpacks. They left their backpacks as the agents approached and fled back to Mexico.

The backpacks contained 152 pounds of marijuana valued at $122,000.
