Big road project kicks off in southwest Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A widening road project kicked off Wednesday morning.

The widening of 98th street began in southwest Albuquerque. This is what city officials are calling the “missing link” between Blake and Dennis Chavez.

They’re adding more lanes to help the flow of traffic through the two main roads. It will soon go from two lanes to four, something drivers had somewhat created on their own out of frustration, forging through the shoulders just to get around.

There shouldn’t be any major road closures during the construction. Officials hope the project will be done by early 2016.

They’ll also add bike lanes, sidewalks and medians.
