ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A non-profit organization that truly supports its community is throwing their annual event.
In 2014, Dream Big threw their annual benefit called Kutz 4 Kidz. 6,000 children were able to get free back to school haircuts. Each hairdresser and barber that participated in the event worked for free and styled out the children’s hair however they wanted it.
Founder, Kevin Banks, joined KRQE This Morning to discuss the event and talk about why he does this each year. He says that it is important to him that children return to school feeling confident.
It’s not only haircuts that Banks provide. School supplies are gifted to the children along with backpacks, and medical exams for underprivileged children.
This year, the goal is to help 8,000 children to return to school with the proper tools they need to succeed.
If you are looking to help out with this cause, Dream Big is looking for volunteers on Thursday, August 6 to help stuff backpacks. Head over to the African American Performing Arts Center at the NM State Fairgrounds from 6:30 to 7:30.
The Kutz 4 Kids main event is being held on Sunday, August 9 at the African American Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. It’s free to park and to register.
