Flooding washes out railroad bridge in northern New Mexico

ALGODONES, N.M. (KRQE) – A flash flood washed out about 100 feet of railroad track on the north side of the bridge at Arroyo Maria Chavez, just north of the Town of Algodones

It happened between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.

The Rail Runner service will be suspended for the entire weekend as crews work to re-stabilize the ground beneath the damaged track.

Passengers on all remaining evening Rail Runner trains will be bussed around an area of railroad track just north of the Town of Algodones.  Passengers on northbound trains will de-board at the US 550 Rail Runner station in Bernalillo and get on buses until they reach the 599 Rail Runner Station outside Santa Fe. There they will get back on a train that will take them the rest of the way into Santa Fe.

All passengers due to board southbound trains out of Santa Fe will be bussed to the US 550 station at Bernalillo where they will board another train and complete their journey to destinations south.
