Teens accused of killing Albuquerque man indicted

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The six teens accused of killing Steven Gerecke during a night of mobbing were indicted by a grand jury Friday.

Christopher Rodriguez,16, Jeremiah King, 16, Andrew Hubler, 15, Ryan Archibeque, 17, Enrique Palomino, 14, and Matthew Baldonado, 14 are each facing an open murder charge in Gerecke’s death. Officials say the teens have also been charged with attempted murder for shooting at another man.

Hubler, Rodriguez, King and Archibeque are charged as serious youthful offenders. Palomino and Baldonado are charged as youthful offenders.

Gerecke’s body was discovered in his driveway last month. It happened at 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of Chihuahua NE. Police said the homeowner confronted a group of suspects in the neighborhood near Tramway and Indian School who were breaking into cars. He was then shot and killed.

Police say the teens were all together robbing homes and cars on the night of Gerecke’s murder. According to the complaint, police say the teens had been “mobbing,” or committing numerous group burglaries in neighbors across the northeast part of town for weeks. Police caught up with them after they were caught on surveillance video using stolen credit cards.

The teens appeared in court earlier this month where a judge set their bond at $250,000 cash-only for each of them. The teens will be arraigned at a later date.
