ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A new, unique approach is encouraging people to check out local breweries and restaurants.
“This is a great way of getting out there and figuring out what Albuquerque is all about,” Desmond Dorn said.
Each stop gives a passport holder a stamp, which gets that person one step closer to a chance at a prize, like a bike or a Staycation.
Nexus Brewery & Restaurant is one of 18 local spots participating.
“Just to draw in a new crowd that maybe we hadn’t been reaching,” said Reina Carson, assistant general manager at Nexus.
Passport holders are not required to buy something at each destination, but Nexus said over the last two months, more than a hundred people came in for a stamp and stayed for something more.
“Most people can’t resist the smell of the fried chicken and waffles once they come in, so they end up eating,” Carson said.
Travelers have until August 15 to turn in their passports at Jubilation Wine & Spirits at 3512 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque.
Twelve stamps is enough to be entered into the drawing. All 18 stamps will get someone’s name in the drawing five times.
“I’m this close! I’m this close! The only one that I don’t have is Rio Bravo Brewery, and we’re waiting for their grand opening,” Dorn said. “So, whenever their doors open, I’ll be right there.”
The Brew Passport shows Rio Bravo Brewing Company had a grand opening scheduled for July 17, but travelers eager to get their stamp are still waiting.
The company’s Facebook page says it now expects to open the first week of August.
Anyone interested in entering the drawing can pick up a passport at participating bars or in the June issue of “Albuquerque The Magazine.”
