ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An alleged carjacker in Albuquerque faced a judge on Thursday.

More details are being released about the crime spree that happened on Wednesday. KRQE News 13 learned just how close one victim came to be shot.

Thomas Martinez allegedly carjacked a driver at the Super 8 on University. Officers caught up to him at a Ramada near I-40 and Eubank. As they moved in, he fled and carjacked another driver down the block.

That driver, a mother with three kids, says the kids ran to safety but Martinez pushed her into the passenger seat. She says he shot at her but missed.

After a chase, Martinez then allegedly carjacked an 83-year-old woman. When a family member tried to intervene, they say Martinez tried to shoot at them but the gun failed to discharge.

That is when officers arrested Martinez.

He’s now facing federal carjacking charges. A judge ordered him to be held without bond. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
