HOBBS N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico day care is under investigation after a woman found a little boy wandering and screaming outside in the street.
Gia Nance said she was driving by Shining Stars Daycare in Hobbs when something got her attention.
“I look to the left on my side mirror and there’s a little boy on the curb screaming to get back into the day care,” said Nance.
She parked her car to get out and help, but when she tried to open a side gate to let the boy back in, it was locked. Then she saw another toddler outside by himself on the other side of the gate. Nance says the boy inside the gate was trying to open it to let the other little boy in. She also says there was not a teacher in sight.
Finally Nance went inside to look for an adult but she says there was still no one around.
“There was a good 20 kids there and not a single teacher for five minutes,” Nance said.
Nance says a staffer finally showed up and she explained to her that the boy was out in the street by himself. She said the employee seemed angry, snatched the boy and took him back inside. Nance then called the Children, Youth and Families Department.
CYFD officials say they are looking into it.
According to reports from earlier this year, the day care has already had problems with under staffing.
KRQE News 13 went to the day care for answers, but were asked to leave the property.
Nance says she just wants other parents to be aware.
“I wanted other parent to know in case you know their kids do go to that day care, i have a child of my own and i wouldn’t want my kid out there by themselves,” she said.
The day care did say that Nance is exaggerating the story, but wouldn’t say how.
