FARMINGTO (AP) – A man accused of helping his brother gun down a man outside the Animas Valley Mall in April 2013 has been convicted of first-degree murder.

The Daily Times reports a jury found Luis Ramirez guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder among other charges in connection to the shooting death of Johnny Vialpando. The jury determined that Ramirez had aided and abetted his brother, Alejandro Ramirez, who was found guilty of the same offenses in April.

Vialpando’s wife was with her three children when she saw her husband gunned down outside the Farmington mall. She says the verdict has brought justice.

Luis Ramirez’s attorney, Arlon Stoker, says he plans to appeal the decision.

Luis Ramirez’ sentencing hearing hasn’t yet been secheduled. His brother, Alejandro, is set to be sentenced Aug. 14. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
