Officials identify body found in the middle of street

death investigation

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a possible hit and run after a woman was found dead in the middle of the street.

BCSO says Deedra Fredericks, 41, was found lying in the street in the 6900 block of 4th street. Officials say Fredericks was staying at the El Camino motel.

Authorities say Fredericks left the motel at 2 a.m. and never returned. Detectives say they believe she was laying in the road when a vehicle may have hit her.

Officials say it appears the case may be a hit and run, but investigators say the Office of the Medical Investigator will determine the official cause of death. Investigators are also looking to business in the area for surveillance video.

According to BCSO, one person, who was seen running from the scene is in custody. Investigators have determined that the person in custody is not related to the death of the woman.
