Rio Grande Charity Slam promotes good health

Notah Begay

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Notah Begay III has a big name. He knows many celebrities and for the second time in as many years Begay has used all of it for a good cause. The second annual New Mexico Charity Slam Golf Event took place Friday with a host of celebrities from actors to athletes.

Begay says the Charity Slam is a golf event with a message aimed at children and adults.

“Create awareness within two areas,” said Begay. “The first is to heighten their awareness about exercise and better nutrition and secondly is to make leadership aware. To understand that this childhood obesity issue isn’t going away.”

Begay knows the importance of good health after suffering a heart attack in 2014. He has also seen first hand the benefits that the Charity Slam is starting to yield.

“We’re in upwards of over 50 different tribal communities in our grant making program and we are close to over 20 thousand kids served,” said Begay. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
