1 injured, 1 in custody after possible gang related shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One person is in critical condition and another is in police custody after what could be a gang related shooting. It happened early Saturday morning in downtown Albuquerque .

Police say the incident began inside the Lotus nightclub where the victim and the suspect had been involved in a fight. The suspect left the night club in a red SUV that was observed by police running over barricades and through red lights on Central. Officers learned that Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a shots fired call at Fourth and Central and that the offender was in a red SUV.

Albuquerque police located the SUV and attempted to stop it. Police say during the chase a handgun was thrown out of the vehicle. The SUV came to a stop at 10th and Iron and police arrested 38-year-old Michael Ponce who was later found to be a Burqueno gang member who was on federal probation for drug trafficking and aggravated assault charges.

At this time police have not released the identity of the victim.
