WIPP going through trial run before full opening

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – WIPP will be getting a trial run before they partially re-open next year.

An official with the Department of Energy says workers will practice with dummy drums before switching to real waste. The switch is expected to happen sometime next spring.

The EPA held a public meeting in Carlsbad yesterday. They listened to people speak about whether WIPP should be re-certified or not after last year’s radiation release.

They’re holding two meetings in Albuquerque today.
