Local stylists raise funds for Heading Home Initiative

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Participating salons and barbershops host a creative in-store campaigns to raise funds and awareness for the ABQ Heading Home Housing Initiative.

Cutting Out Homelessness is the brain child of two local hairstylists, and co-owners of Square Root Salon, created to raise funds and awareness for the ABQ Heading Home Housing Initiative.

Current statistics show that by housing someone who would otherwise be on the streets can save hundreds of thousands of taxpayers dollars each year. This fundraising event wants to show that Albuquerque can successfully decrease homelessness while saving money.

Stylists and barbers compete for fun prizes and kick off the event with a party hosted by ABQ Heading Home. Those interested in taking part in these “cut-off” are encouraged to get their hair cut, dyed or styled at a participating salon.

Megan McCormick, Heading Home Development Director, and Ayse Rico, Square Root Salon Stylist, joined KRQE’s This Morning team to discuss the impact this campaign can make and also demonstrate a live hair cut, watch above.
