Cat survives 64 days trapped in futon

Moosie the miracle cat

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA (KRQE) – From Texas to Alaska that’s the journey one cat made. The little guy is being called a miracle cat after he spent 64 days trapped inside a futon mattress inside a moving box.

Kymberly and Jesse Chelf moved from El Paso, Texas to Fairbanks, Alaska. Moosie went missing during the move, and the Chelf’s thought he’d run away.

The cat spent just over two months, trapped in darkness, without food or water. When the movers arrived with their stuff Kymberly heard the cat meowing from inside. They found a severely dehydrated and very scared little Moosie. But, his vet says the prognosis is good.

Moosie has proven he can beat the odds more than once.

The Chelf’s hand-fed Moosie as a baby and for now they’ll need to feed him through a tube.

But, they say he’s family and are happy he’ survived his big trip. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
