Local bakeries hit hard by liquid egg shortage

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Local bakeries are feeling the hurt from a liquid egg shortage.

Suppliers notified local bakeries and other businesses of the shortage happening because of the bird flu outbreak in the Midwest. One local bakery says it’s gotten so bad that prices have gone up about 110 percent in just two weeks.

“It’s wiped off about 10 to 12 percent of the chicken population so they say it’s about 6 to 8 months to get those back into form,” said Paul Bendinskas the owner of ABC Cake Shop and Bakery. Bendinskas says they haven’t had to raise their prices yet.

It doesn’t look like it’s getting better any time soon. Liquid egg is already cracked eggs sold in large quantities.
