ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The final day of the Major League Baseball Draft saw a pair of current Lobos and a pair of incoming Lobos taken.
Junior pitcher Toller Boardman was selected in the 22nd round by the Detroit Tigers.
The first team, All Mountain West, performer went 9 and 3 for the Lobos this past season and had a 3.46 earned run average. Lobos junior infielder Sam Haggerty was selected in the 24th round by Cleveland.
Incoming freshman pitcher Danny Sands was taken by the New York Yankees in the eighth round and has already signed.
Another incoming Lobo freshman, Cole Anderson, was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round but has yet to sign. Lobos head coach Ray Birmingham is glad his players are getting opportunities.
There have been 26 Lobos drafted since Birmingham arrived on the scene in 2008.
