Sign appears at ghost bike location

Ghost Bike Sign

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Someone is letting whoever stole a ghost bike honoring a dead bicyclist know what they think of them.

A sign now sits at Washington and Indian School where Matt Trujillo’s ghost bike once sat. The sign reads “Whoever stole ghost bike is a jerk. Please put it back.”

The ghost bike was taken last month.

36-year-old Trujillo was killed in 2011 by a woman who ran a red light while high on meth.

Stealing a ghost bike is a crime because it’s a descanso and is protected.

Friends and family are now working to replace the bike. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
