ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Health officials have heard from a woman they were concerned may have been exposed to a rabid bat.

The state’s Health Department says the woman went into Walmart near the Cottonwood Mall Tuesday morning on a motorized wheelchair.

When the woman was paying for her items, workers noticed a bat hanging from her basket. The bat tested positive for rabies.

A worker who handled the bat is getting a series of vaccinations.

Health officials say the woman in the wheelchair was not exposed.
