Officials cleanup Officer Benner’s memorial

RIO RANCHO (KRQE) – The cleanup began Friday at the memorial where Rio Rancho Police Officer Gregg Benner was killed.

Since last week, people have left flowers, cards, American flags and other items.

“Today items that were paper, cards, drawings, things that could be damaged by the rain, we wanted to carefully extract today and make sure they were presented to the family for review and I’ve been assured by the police force those will be preserved,” said Rio Rancho Mayor Greggory Hull

Police say they may build a permanent memorial.
