ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two Albuquerque police officers were taken to the hospital after officials say a suspect rammed their patrol units. That suspect is also hospitalized.
APD Chief Gorden Eden just spoke to KRQE News 13 about this. He says a car theft suspect, who tried to ram an officer last week, did it again Thursday.
“The officers set up surveillance, looking for the vehicle…rammed maybe two, three of our vehicles,” Eden said.
Police say Thursday’s suspect is the same one seen in the red Chevy Tahoe in a lapel video from Memorial Day. That man tried escaping from officers at an apartment complex near Indian School and Rio Grande. The officer shot at him as he got away.
Officers have identified that suspect as Danan Gabaldon.
Thursday detectives were searching for him again. When they found him, he got into a red sedan and rammed at least two patrol cars.
Two officers were hit and taken to the hospital.
Police say the suspect ran off and the officers used beanbags and tased him. Officials say one officer did fire his weapon.
Officials say the suspect was then taken to the hospital.
Chief Eden says he’s waiting to learn why the suspect was taken to the hospital. APD says Gabaldon was not shot and is in stable condition.
Neighbors in the area said it was a scary scene.
“Just gun shots, a couple gun shots, and after I heard a loud car you know, it sounded like someone was trying to get away,” said one neighbor.
KRQE News 13 will provide updates as they become available.
