RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who shot at police during a 40 mile chase has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars.
In February of 2014 Chinh Huynh pointed a gun and demanded cash from a victim at an ATM in Rio Rancho. Huynh then took off with his accomplices.
When police caught up with them Huynh fled, leading police all the way to Jemez Springs, shooting at officers along the way.
Huynh was shot in the arm and arrested.
Huynh was convicted of aggravated assault on a peace officer, armed robbery and fleeing in January.
The district attorney’s office had asked for an 18 year sentence but the judge handed down a 12 year sentence.
