RED RIVER, N.M. (KRQE) – The motorcycle rally in Red River this Memorial Day weekend motorcycle saw fewer riders but many are blaming the weather, not the fear of gang violence. Red River Marshal David Smith says the attendance peaked at about 15,000 down about 5,000 from past years.

He says the rain most likely deterred those traveling from Oklahoma and Texas. That’s where some Bandidos and Cossacks were involved in a violent shootout last week. Despite fears of another attack authorities say the rally ran smoothly. The only arrests were DWI related. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
