ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque officer is on paid leave after firing at a suspect who fled from police in a stolen vehicle.

Police were responding to a stolen car report on Indian School on Monday night.  When they arrived, the driver would not comply with officers and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle with a woman and child inside.

An APD officer fired more than one shot at the driver.

The driver continued to flee the scene and then crashed into a truck. The driver of the truck was not injured. Police say this is when a woman and a 5-year-old got out of the vehicle and were taken to a hospital by officials.

Police later located the stolen vehicle on Floral Road but there was no one inside.

The man originally arrested has since been released.

Officials say the officer who fired shots at the suspect has not yet been interviewed.

Police are still searching for the man that fled the scene. They ask the public to contact them at (505)-242-2677 with any information on the case.
