NM Games starts basketball event Memorial weekend

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An event that brings $1 million to $2 million to the state of New Mexico is coming to the Duke City this upcoming weekend.

Th NM State Games have grown from 1,000 athletes to over 8,000. These games are the largest multi-sport event in New Mexico. They have been for the past 30 years.

What is unique about this event is the variety of sports. This event has everything from basketball to badminton to even lazer tag.

Participants range in age form 4 to 85, the oldest participant over the years was 90, according to the executive director, Fred Hultberg, who joined the KRQE This Morning team on Friday, May 22.

Basketball, is the largest sport at this event with around 235 teams from throughout the state for the last four years. Over 150 teams come in from outside of Albuquerque.
