ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Hockey in the dessert isn’t something that is heard very often, but Albuquerque has a large hockey community that sticks together.
A past Scorpion player, Darcy Pengelly, is being helped by what they are deeming themselves as his hockey family.
Earlier this year Pengelly’s wife, Rachelle, was diagnosed with a rare cancer found in adults, Ewing’s Sarcoma. Treatment was needed immediately that caused her miss work along with her husband, Darcy.
To help kick Rachelle’s cancer to the curb, the hockey family has set up a fundraiser in her honor, a hockey tournament.
This tournament is being held both Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24. Each day there will be two games, one at 10 a.m and the other at 11:30 a.m.
For those interested in participating, a donation of $50 is requested to play. Players of all levels are welcome to sign up.
Those who are wishing to donate can visit their donation page or coming to the game to cheer on the players.
Each day there will be a 50/50 raffle along with raffles for prizes.
For more information on participation in the hockey game, visit Rachelle’s Facebook page.
