ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The little girl who was taken away by her father earlier this month has turned up safe and is back with her mother. Abelino Lopez refused to tell police where she was until Sunday night.
Arianna Lopez, 6, was handed over to detectives Sunday night.
Last Sunday Lopez wouldn’t tell police his daughter Arianna was. KRQE News 13 has learned she was likely in Roswell the whole time with his family. Police say Arianna is in good spirits and good health. Detectives had been in touch with Lopez since he bonded out. He was supposed to turn Arianna in on Friday but didn’t until Sunday night.
Police say he took her from a catholic church on May 9th and Lopez said he did it for her own well-being. He believes he wasn’t treated fairly during custody proceedings in court. No one else is facing any charges at this time but the Albuquerque Police Department is looking into it.
“Our biggest concern was getting Arianna back and we got her back and prosecuting people is secondary to that,” Officer Tanner Tixier said.
If anyone is charged they would also face the same charge of custodial interference if police feel it’s warranted.
Police say Lopez isn’t looking at any other charges at this time. Arianna will be interviewed by detectives and child psychologists Monday.
They will now look at what’s best for Arianna and if the current court arrangement is best for her.
