ESTANCIA, N.M. (KRQE) – Drug dogs may soon be walking the halls in one New Mexico school district.
The Estancia School Board is talking about resuming drug dog searches for fear drugs have seeped into the middle and high school.
Under the proposal the dogs would walk the halls and parking lots and could search lockers and backpacks, but would not be able to inspect students themselves.
The superintendent tells KRQE News 13 that the proposal is an effort be proactive.
The school board would have to vote on the proposal before it can be instituted. The board will review it again in July before next school year.
