City council inches toward Albuquerque police decision

Albuquerque City Council

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The fight over who can decide who is Albuquerque’s next top cop could soon be in your hands. It could all start with a vote by city council Monday. Right now Mayor Berry is the only person in charge of picking or getting rid of Albuquerque’s police and fire chiefs.

There’s a proposal on the table right now that could give council hiring and firing power over those two top jobs if voters say yes.

Monday, city council would have to pass the proposal for the question to go before the voters in October.
