ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque City Council voted to move forward with hiring a federal monitor.

James Ginger will be the new federal monitor. It’s costing $4.5 million to bring in Ginger.

The City of Albuquerque and the DOJ agreed to a contract for the monitor’s office in an effort to overhaul the Albuquerque Police Department following a Department of Justice report blasting APD’s use of force.

Two city councilors voted against bringing on Ginger. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
