ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police say a man who ran off with his daughter has turned himself in to police but the 6-year-old girl is still missing.
On Saturday, Abelino Lopez took his daughter, Arianna, from Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
According to a criminal complaint, Lopez was in church and asked Arianna is she wanted to come with him. He doesn’t have custody and has a court order to stay away from the girl.
The custody fight was sparked over Lopez’s disagreement over his daughter’s medical treatment.
“I love her and the children’s treatment center is medicating my daughter for no reason,” Lopez claimed during a perp walk.
Lopez turned himself in Sunday afternoon. According to a criminal complaint, Lopez told Rio Rancho Police the girl was in California. He says Arianna is safe and with family but isn’t telling Albuquerque Police or the media where she is specifically.
“If I’m not telling these guys, why would I tell you sir?” Lopez said to KRQE News 13 photojournalist Tim Holcomb.
Arianna was last seen wearing a pink dress. She’s 4 feet tall, 65 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.
Police said they did not issue an Amber Alert in this case because they do not have reason to believe the young girl is in danger.
Anyone with information is being asked to call Albuquerque Police at 505-926-6077 or 505-379-1292.
