State Baseball best of three underway

ALBUQUERQUE(KRQE) – Day one of State Baseball, best of three series, had most favorites winning with only a few exceptions.

The defending champions of big school baseball opened with a 15 to 5 victory. The 3-seed La Cueva Bears found themselves down to the Valley Vikings one to nothing early before coming back for a lopsided victory.

Number two seed Rio Rancho needed a walk off triple to turn away upset minded Las Cruces 3 to 2.

In Class 5A Albuquerque Academy and the St. Pius Sartans protected their respective home fields. Academy outlasted Belen 14 to 4 while St. Pius defeated Centennial 4 to 2. In the ranks of Class 4A top seed Sandia Prep turned away Pojoaque Valley 17 to 3.
