Chris’ Friday Afternoon Forecast

Tornado Watches for Curry and Roosevelt Counties continue until 4pm this afternoon.   A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.   Fortunately, as of noon no severe weather was firing up anywhere in New Mexico.   Instead a bulk of the stronger storms and heavy rain are in Texas right now.   But, stay with KRQE for more weather updates throughout the afternoon if anything does become severe.  Wind will be the bigger story for much of central and western New Mexico today.   Wind gusts will range from 35-45 mph in later this afternoon into the early evening before the wind comes down after sunset tonight.   The gusty wind today is thanks to a storm system that is going to be passing over the region this weekend.   This will bring the chance for some scattered rain and high mountain snow especially for northern New Mexico on Saturday and Sunday.
