Albuquerque Police Officer honored for helping a woman stay warm

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The city is honoring an officer who made sure a woman stayed warm this winter.

The woman told Officer Christopher Wetterlund that someone stole a FedEx package containing her new heater.

The officer called FedEx and discovered that the package had been delivered to another home. FedEx took full responsibility for the mix-up, but that wasn’t enough for Officer Wetterlund. He bought a heater at Home Depot to make sure the woman didn’t suffer in the cold.

“I was just glad to be given the opportunity to help that person that day, I think as police officers do everyday, but doesn’t always get recognized,” Wetterlund said.

FedEx sent the homeowner a new heater the following week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
