Theater Thursday: “Curtains”

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Adobe Theater is bringing to the stage the musical, ‘Curtains’. Written by Rupert Holmes (music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb – Chicago, Cabaret) ‘Curtains’ is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in Boston in 1959. Police Lieutenant Frank Cioffi  is called to the theater to investigate the murder of the supremely untalented star of “Robin’ Hood of the Old West” during her opening night curtain call.

The suspects are a legion of faded Broadway stars, young up-and-comers, hard-bitten Broadway producers, financiers out to protect their investment, among other flamboyant characters.Expect romantic liaisons between various and sundry people involved with the show. There’s even the possibility that Lieutenant Cioffi – while trying to stay alive – may find love himself. After all, this is musical theater.

The show will run May 15 through June 7, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
