Study shows New Mexico nurses doing well

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico nurses don’t have it so bad.

As part of National Nurses Week the group WalletHub did a study. The study showed that New Mexico has one of the lowest nursing shortages in the country, ranking third lowest in the country for nurse job openings. The study also showed New Mexico has the 5th best average salary for nurses, when taking into consideration cost of living. New Mexico also ranked 5th for the number of nurses per capita.

The entire country has suffered a significant nursing shortage in the past few years, prompting a big push in colleges to train more people.

One thing New Mexico still struggles with is getting nurses to rural areas. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
