SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe school board members have a tough decision to make. They’re deciding whether to dip into the district’s reserves to balance the budget. The school district is planning to give teachers the raises called for by the legislature but says it doesn’t have enough money to cover other costs, including the maintenance budget. There’s talk about cutting that fund and that would result in delaying summer repairs.
The district is also trying to come up with money to cover higher medical insurance costs. The district has asked the public education department for $680,000 in emergency funding but that request is still pending.
The board is scheduled to vote on the budget Tuesday.
