Fallen officers honored during law enforcement memorial week

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police and the Bernalillo County’s Sheriff’s Department held a service as part of law enforcement memorial week. A bell was run for every fallen officer in New Mexico.

Family members of former and current officers stood in the attendance as the head of each department addressed their own.

The department heads thanked the officers for putting their lives on the line each and every day.

“We have a solemn obligation to give thanks and credit to these police officers that are no longer with us. We honor as well all of those who bravely faced injury and disability,” said Albuquerque Police Chief Gordon Eden.

Albuquerque police officer John Phillip Kelly was the department’s most recent loss. He died from a heart attack during a training exercise in March.
