Mom arrested following canceled Amber Alert

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Roswell mom is facing felony child abuse, child abandonment and obstruction charges after her young son was found following an Amber Alert.

New Mexico State Police put out that Amber Alert Saturday evening, saying one-year-old Lucas was missing and had likely been seriously injured. Although Lucas had last been seen with his mother, Loraine Olivas, police had been unable to find Lucas until late Saturday night.

Police told the Roswell Daily Record that Lucas was found by a good samaritan. The boy is now in CYFD custody. Roswell Police arrested Olivas for child abuse and for interfering with a child abuse investigation. It’s unclear what injuries Lucas sustained.

A Roswell police spokesperson declined to release further details on the case Sunday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
