A trough sitting off the West Coast will impact our weather for the next five days. It will all start on Thursday with moisture creeping into the western portion of the state. Scattered showers will be the rule from Durango down to Silver City. Most areas won’t get wet given that the showers will be pretty widely separated, but a few areas across the west will see some rain.
As we head into Friday, the first weather disturbance rolls right into the state. The problem is, this storm will weaken as it approaches. Because of this, I would expect us to just see a few showers on Friday. The weakest disturbance comes through on Saturday. That one too will spread a few showers across central and western sections.
The real action ramps up on Sunday. A more powerful storm system across the state comes along with a cold front. The combination of these two features will give us a chance at widespread showers and mountain snow.
We need to see a few more model runs to be sure of what’s going to unfold on Sunday. But when you compare this forecast to 24 hours ago, it’s definitely more promising.
