Albuquerque teens taking disturbing Internet challenge

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque teens are taking an Internet challenge that has parents shaking their heads and doctors concerned.

Teens are trying to plump up their lips like reality star Kylie Jenner.

There are tons of videos and pictures online, not only of this challenge, but of this challenge going very wrong. The videos are from all over the country, including right here in Albuquerque.

KRQE News 13 has heard from local parents, teachers and students.

“I don’t know why they try it,” Savannah Gonzales, a student. “They just do it for the fun of it I guess and they post it on social media.”

Teens are suctioning their lips with a shot glass or bottle cap to make them look bigger, to make them look like Kylie Jenner’s.

She is known for her family’s show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians.”

It is called the #kyliejennerchallenge, but many are posting about the #kyliejennerchallengegonewrong.

“It can pop your blood vessels all around and it’s pretty horrible,” Gonzales said. “I’ve seen some pretty bad pictures.”

That is why she said she won’t be trying it.

Not only do the pictures look bad but doctors say it can be dangerous.

It can cause bruising, scarring or even disfigurement.

“I have heard of people using glass drinking bottles to do it. The glass could break and it can cut their lip,” said Jessica Chavez.

“I think it’s kind of ridiculous, I mean, just be happy with what you have,” said Faith Maddox.

Kylie Jenner responded to the challenge on Twitter saying:
